When did you start your business? 2003
Why did you decide to start your business & why did you choose the type of business you chose? My sister-in-law and I started RSC as a way to offer local and reasonably priced scrapbooking events to women in the Central MA area. We continue to offer our events as a non-profit business, but would love to someday move into the “for profit” realm!
What is your favorite thing about being in business for yourself? I love being creative and knowing that all of our hard work, creativity and time invested is for the good of OUR OWN business, and not to help fill someone else’s wallet.
What turned out to be harder than you thought? A LOT of planning and time for very little financial reward
Looking back, what is one thing you know now, but wish you knew back then? To think of it as a business from the start, and not just 2 friends having fun. We wasted a couple years not really focusing on a goal.
Do you participate in any business groups (mentoring, networking, etc) ? I have taking classes through the Small Business Administration
As a business owner, it can be easy to work all the time – do you have any tips for balancing your business and your personal life? Since we only run events 1x a month, I set a schedule of daily tasks for myself to keep me on track.
What have been some of your best business successes? We have had almost our entire customer base has raved about what wonderful time they have had at our events!
What are you planning to do with your business in the future? We hope to continue to grow. When we started in 2003, it was with a yearly weekend retreat. We now do in-home workshops and monthly day events in addition to our annual retreat.
