This is the kind of gift that does double duty. If you are a mom, you can ask for this. It’s a notebook made out of a record, so it’s cool. And you can jot down business notes in it.

Now, if you’re not a mom, you can buy one for your mom. These are made out of vintage records. Your mom may have been a fan of the artist you choose and may have tons of memories of jamming out to the songs on the record.

Like I said, it’s a pretty cool gift.

Both of them are small and compact and well, personal game systems. So why would a mom want to play video games? Well, video games have come a long way…. In fact, you don’t even need to play video games on them at all.

Nintendo was gracious enough to send me a DS Lite and two games, Personal Trainer: Cooking & Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I was never much into video games before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, here’s what I thought:

Personal Trainer: Cooking is the modern version of a cookbook (you probably saw those Lisa Kudrow commercials). Not only are there a ton of recipes – the DS practically holds your hand and walks you through the cooking process. It goes through everything, step by step, audibly. Yep. It talks you through it. And gives you visual demonstrations. Seriously.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is full of puzzles and some of them had me second guessing myself.  You’re solving a mystery at the same time. If you liked playing the board game Clue or ever wanted to go to one of those murder mystery dinners, you’ll enjoy this game.

The ultimate compliment is that I went to my local game store this weekend and purchased 2 games! So that says a lot! Can you believe I found Snood for the DS? Yes. Snood. The most addictive game ever… (I used to play the shareware version on the PC). And I bought Cooking Mama.

Yep. I’m enjoying the DS.

The organizer is 100% cotton, measures 39×4” and has 7 hanging loops with silver snaps and a grommet for easy mounting in a closet or on a door. Each loop can hold 2-4 items. Priced at $30, these are a functional and affordable gift… And don’t forget fashionable (you really need to go and check out the cute fabrics these are made in. I mean, seriously.)
