Yesterday, we talked about spring cleaning your website and blog. Today, we are going to talk about spring cleaning your social media!
Social media is a great tool for meeting new people and marketing your business, but if you’re not using it right, it’s not going to be much help at all.
Facebook Fan Page – Let’s start with the Facebook Fan Page. Are you posting links on your wall to your blog and your products? If not, now is the time to start! Have you uploaded any photos of your products? Please tell me you have at least uploaded a picture of your logo! If not, now is the time!
Twitter – I love Twitter! And I hope you are using it. (If not, please go sign up for an account right now) Now, for those of you who have been using it for a while, do you need to freshen it up a bit? Take a look at your avatar, your bio, your background page, etc. Your avatar picture should be clear and easy to see, your background should be customized — this allows you to display some of your products, more info about yourself, etc. And don’t forget to look at your Twitter feed itself… Remember, no one wants to follow an ad feed. Yes, you should post about your products, but also take time to post informative links, retweet others, carry on a conversation, etc.
Other – If you use other social media sites, it’s time to give those a once-over, too. For example, make sure all of your info on LinkedIn is up to date, add some photos to your Flickr, etc.
Yes, I know that all this freshening up can take some time. But it’s more than worth it! Your website and social media profiles are the first impression give people online. Make it a good one!
