The Importance of “I Am”

I was watching an episode of Oprah’s Lifeclass yesterday, and the topic caught my attention and really made me think.

The topic was the words “I am” and how whatever you say you are, you end up becoming.

I don’t want to get all new-agey on you, but this makes a lot of sense to me.

For example, if you are currently telling yourself “I’m not a good writer,”  “I’m not good at marketing,” or ” I’m not going to be successful at this,” then you’ll never be a good writer, you’ll never be good at marketing, and you’ll never be successful at what you are doing.

I didn’t know how to make a website when I got the idea for this site. I didn’t say “I don’t know how to do that.” I said “I am going to learn how to make websites, and I am going to make an awesome one.”

Obviously, it wasn’t that simple. I had to tell myself that. And then I had to put in the effort and work to learn how to make a site. (and I had to keep reminding myself of why I wanted to do this along the way, whenever I got discouraged).

What are you telling yourself? Try to be conscious of this for a day or two…  Every time you catch yourself telling yourself something negative, put a positive spin on it.

Instead of saying “I’m never going to be successful,” say “I am working towards a very successful year.”

Once you start telling yourself that, you’re going to find a way to make it come true!

  1. Thanks a lot for the helpful content. It is also my belief that mesothelioma has an really long latency phase, which means that warning signs of the disease won’t emerge until eventually 30 to 50 years after the initial exposure to mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma, that is the most common kind and affects the area within the lungs, may cause shortness of breath, upper body pains, plus a persistent coughing, which may produce coughing up body.

  2. Howdy! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I truly enjoy reading through your blog posts. Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that deal with the same topics? Thank you so much!
