I could feel it coming for a couple days before it really hit me. By Thursday, I accepted it. I was sick.
I was sneezing and blowing my nose. My throat was sore. I was tired. I had no patience and I just wanted to be home laying down.
I needed a couple sick days. Sometimes it is hard to admit that. And when you work from home, it can be easy to just keep working.
I mean, you are right there – next to the computer, anyway. Why not turn it on and work through the misery of being sick?
Being a “little sick” can turn into a “big problem” if I don’t watch it. I have a B12 deficiency & rare form of anemia, and I don’t have enough blood as it is. When I’m sick, my blood counts can drop even more.
I’ve learned not to push it. I’ve learned how to take a break, to get a couple days of rest, and for extra measure, I give myself an extra B12 shot when I’m feeling like crap.
I deserve to unplug the computer for a couple days to feel better.
I had to get really sick from my anemia to realize this. I hope that just reading this will help you realize it. So, the next time you’re sick – do yourself a favor. Take a couple of sick days. You deserve it, too.
Yes, it can be hard when you work from home to take a couple of sick days. The guilt can set in pretty quick – but remember to take care of yourself so you can be the best at your business! When I was sick the last two weeks, I emailed my clients to let them know, and let them know that I do pretty shoddy work when I program through the flu! No one complained =) The best part about working for yourself, I think, is unlimited sick/vacation days. =)
I hope you are feeling better! Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.
I’m glad you took some time to get better. It’s funny how computers supposed to make life easier but due to the convenience we work more. I know I work full time outside of my home and in the evenings I work on my blogs and etc pretty late into the night.
