Ok, I have an idea and it’s something I’ve been toying with for some time, and I wanna make it happen. But I need your help!
Did you grow up in the 90s? And if so, do you wanna talk about how it shaped you?
I was born in 1977 – and so I became a teenager in 1990. The DIY movement was VERY strong during this time period. Indie record labels were out-selling major labels, the Riot Grrrl movement brought in a new wave of feminism. And then the internet started building momentum and that opened up a whole new world for people and allowed young people to start businesses with $20 or less in their pocket.
Obviously, these things had a HUGE impact on me.
What about you?
I’d like to collect the essays of other people who came of age during this time and put them together in a compilation, which I will then shop out to publishers. I don’t know if this will get picked up, if this will make you rich and famous or if I will end up self-publishing this myself…
But, whatever happens, this is a story that should be told….

GREAT idea, Crissy!
I don’t know what I might have to contribute, but I agree that it’s a great idea! I was born in 1983, so the 90s definitely shape me as a young adult!
I think I must have been in a daze in the 90s because I’m much more aware of the DIY movement and feminism now than I was then. I was born in 1976 btw. Your idea sounds awesome and if you need any help with research please feel free to contact me.

I am totally passing this info along. I think this is a great idea, and would be interested in writing/doing research. I was born in ’80, and now teach kids BORN in the mid-90’s, so I have an interesting perspective on how the life without the internet is unfathomable to them, and how we don’t take it for granted in quite the same way.
