A reader recently emailed me a question that I think A LOT of you can relate to:
Her question is “I have two businesses … Should I focus on just one of them?”
I bet that many of you are mulling this question over, yourselves.
It’s normal to have more than one interest, or passion, that you want to create a business out of.
There are two ways to look at this situation:
1) Focus on one business until it’s profitable and you’ve created systems so that the business is automated (or you can delegate the tasks to someone else)
…or…
2) Juggle both businesses and work on both at the same time.
I’ve heard some people say having several things going gives them energy. For others, that would be draining.
I think it’s important to know how you work best.
If you’re not sure which is for you, try working on just the one business for a couple weeks. Then, try adding in tasks for the other business. Pay attention to how you feel, how much energy you have, etc.
If you are still getting your tasks done and are making progress towards your goals, great!
If you feel exhausted and feel like you are moving backwards, then that’s your sign to only work on one business.
Let’s hear from you – Have you been in the “same boat” ?? What works best for YOU?
I just started reading a book called The One Thing by Gary Keller. It suggests that we all have one thing to focus on, and that one thing (once addressed) spirals into other “one things” and opportunities. He also suggests there are six lies that stop us from recognizing that one thing. It’s interesting, and quick to read. You should check it out. Very business/productivity oriented.
Thanks, for the heads up, Tara. I will definitely check it out!
