I recently had a biz friend and reader ask me “What’s up with tiny url stuff – why do we need them and how do we get them?”
Well, as the name suggests, a tiny url is a shortened url. You can get one through their website, www.tinyurl.com All you need to do is submit your long URL and the site makes it a tiny one. The link they give you (which will be tinyurl.com/something) will automatically redirect anyone who clicks on it to the long site.
One of the most popular reasons to use one is because you are on Twitter and need to give a link but only have 140 characters to provide a link and an explanation!
Some people use tiny URLs to disguise long affilite links. However, I don’t reccomend it. I think that if you want to create a short URL for this purpose you should just redirect the site directly from your website. Click Here for an article on how to do this.
