Working With Brands & Big Companies

Have you heard about the bloggers who partner with brands and big companies? The bloggers who get free stuff, and even paychecks, for blogging about these brands or companies?

There are a lot of benefits to partnering with companies and brands. Some of those include increased traffic, which can equal new readers and bigger payouts from Google Adsense (or any other ad network you are a part of.) And let’s not forget about the potential of earning a paycheck from the companies / brands.

And I should know, because I am one of those bloggers.

Before you get mad, let me explain. I’m not making millions. I haven’t been flown anywhere on a private jet or given a luxury vacation or anything like that. And when I go to conferences, I pay for my own hotel room and food.

However, I have gotten some pretty cool stuff. Like in April when I became a Mid-Michigan Chevy Girl and got to drive around in a new Malibu for a month. And now, I am the Facebook Community Manager for Mid-Michigan Chevy and I earn a monthly paycheck for doing this. (I am contracted through a PR company to do this)

In the beginning of the year, I was asked by Laughing Cow cheese to participate in a contest they were having, where I came up with a slogan for one of their new products. Other bloggers were asked to do the same thing, and there was a vote for who the winner would be. I won! They sent me $150 and featured me on their site, which sent me a bunch of new traffic.

Giveaways are another great way to get new traffic. I’ve done small giveaways, with brands such as Eucerin and Rubbermaid. Recently, I was approached by a company to give away a $500 Apple gift card, AND they paid me to do it! I received over 1,800 visits on that post alone. The influx of traffic increased my Google Adsense earnings, I got some new readers, and I got paid to do it.

I don’t always get an outright monetary reward. Sometimes, I get to try out new products. But that has a reward all it’s own, as they can be products I’d like to try anyway, and I don’t have to spend my money on them.

And I don’t always wait around for a company to approach me. There are times when I take the bull by the horns, and I ask the companies if we can work together.

If I can do this, you can do this. You don’t have to be shy about it, or worry that your blog isn’t good enough. And you certainly don’t have to “sell out.” If a company or brand is interested in working with, they are going to want you to sound like YOU. You don’t have to pretend to like something that you don’t, and they’re not going to put words in your mouth (or writing.) In fact, it’s against the law for them to do that!
