Making Friends… With Benefits…

I admit it – I’m a sucker for clever word play. (That explains why I like Pete Wentz’s song titles so much.) I recently came across a new book titled Friends With Benefits: A Social Media Handbook by Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo. That title caught my attention!

The book is well put together and covers a lot of ground. You can view the table of contents here. The book does a good job of explaining things and reminding people of things they may easily forget. For example, in chapter four (Netiquette), the authors start off the chapter by reminding you to listen first.  They explain how to  break the ice with someone online (as if you were having a discussion in hopes of getting featured on their blog),  provide a reminder that bloggers reject marketing talk, and let you know that your reputation preceds you.

If you are new to social media, this book will really help you out. If you’re already social media savvy, this book would serve as an excellent reminder and checklist to keep yourself in line and on the awesome track you’ve found yourself on!
