When you reach a goal, you get a great feeling of accomplishment. For some, that feeling is enough of a motivator to help them work their way to that goal.
Unfortunately, that feeling simply isn’t enough for most people….
If you fall into the second category, don’t worry. You are not alone. And there is a very easy solution to your “problem.” Give yourself a reward!
Yes – a reward!
Knowing that you are going to get a prize can make you work a lot harder! It sounds very simple, but it does work!
For example, if you have a project that needs to be finished, and you’ve been procrastinating, tell yourself that you will get a pedicure when the project is finished, or maybe a new pair of shoes, or your favorite bottle of wine.
Don’t cheat!
For this to work, you really have to wait until the project is finished to indulge in your reward!
For a big goal, put out reminders to help you stay focused and on track. For example, print out pictures of your reward and hang them on your fridge or your bathroom mirror. Every time you see them, you will be reminded of what you are working towards and why you are working so hard!
Have you ever done something like this? What were your results? Did this help you work harder and avoid procrastination?
