The other night during #indiebizchat, we discussed some of the common marketing mistakes that people make. Did you know that your newsletter can be a source of some of these mistakes?
First of all, if you are thinking “what newsletter?” you are making a HUGE mistake. It’s very important to have a regular newsletter to stay in contact with customers and potential customers. A newsletter is a very inexpensive way to let people know about your new products, upcoming sales, and so forth.
You can do a regular “snail mail” newsletter, but it is much more cost effective to create an email newsletter. You’ll want to sign up with an autoresponder. (Click Here for a trial of the one I use) An autoresponder will manage all of the sign ups and removal requests for you. It would be much to time consuming for you to try to handle it yourself. Plus, you can load your newsletter into your autoresponder ahead of time, and schedule it to go out on the day you request. That feature comes in very handy!
Try to place your newsletter sign up box in the upper right portion of your website / blog. This is where people’s eyes hit first when they visit your site. If it is at the bottom of the page, people may not scroll down to see it.
Once you have started your newsletter, it’s important to stay in regular contact with your readers. These people have said “Hey, I want to hear from you!” so it only makes sense to send them regular newsletters!
You can send one once a week, once a month, etc. But keep in mind that if you are sending them less frequently than once per month, they may forget about you.
Your newsletter should be full of info about what is going on in your business. Some people include a featured article, but you could include links to your blog posts, if you prefer. (Click Here for pre-written articles that you can use on your blog or in your newsletter)
A newsletter is VERY important for your business! Not having one is a huge marketing mistake!
