Mid-Michigan Chevy Girls On The Go!

If you ever spend much time with me in person, you’ll find out that some of the topics I talk a lot about are bands, Michigan, and specifically, Flint. Yes, that’s right. I’m a music girl. I love, love, love music. But I’m also proud of where I come from, and that is Flint, Michigan.

Like me, General Motors was also born in Flint. Like most of us here, General Motors has been a big part of my life. My Dad worked for GM, and so did both of my Grandfathers. And we have all driven lots of GM cars.

When I was four or five, my parents bought a Chevette. This was around 81, and the Chevette was the best selling small car in America in 79 and 80, so chances are, your family members owned one, too, at that time.

It was also around this time that I became obsessed with the song “American Pie” by Don McLean. You know how it says “I drove my Chevy to the levee” …  Well, I really wanted my Mom to find a levee to drive to. It didn’t happen….

My first brand-new car was a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. I loved that car. I drove it back and forth from Michigan to Alaska many times (even in January… yes… I drove to Alaska in January).  My ex-husband and I even nicknamed it the “Alaskan Cruiser.” In 2005, my warranty was up and I didn’t want to be driving back and forth on that long trip in a car with no warranty, so it was time to say goodbye to that car and hello to my 2005 Malibu Maxx. Again, I drove that car back and forth across the US and Canada many times.

I’ve faced a lot of milestones in a Chevy. From moving across the country (several times), to driving my new-born nephew home from the hospital, and more. GM – and Chevy, in particular, is in my blood.

So, when I was asked to be a Mid-Michigan Chevy Girl On The Go, I immediately said “YES!”

Chevy has run this program in other towns across the country, and I’m so excited to take part in it this April! Along with a few other bloggers from my local area, I’ll be given a Chevy to drive around in for a month. I’ll also be given “missions” to complete and document via blogging and vlogging!

These are going to be fun missions – and I don’t know what they are yet, but I will be documenting them here on my blog, on an upcoming Chevy Girls blog (I’ll give you the link soon), and through the Mid Michigan Chevy Girls Facebook page!

So stay tuned — lots of exciting stuff is on the way!

  2. I’m very impressed by this effort, both by GM and by the bloggers who are participating. Is there a complete list of all the bloggers? I noticed a hashtag on Twitter #chevygirls – is that the best way to keep up with all the bloggers?

Thanks, can’t wait to hear what these missions will be, sounds fun.
