I recently asked a few women I know and respect to write a guest blog on their feelings about being a mom with a business. The following post comes from Alyssa Avant. I have to tell you – she is a great blogger (check out the vlogs! – aka video blogs!).
Independence Is Mine
Miss Independent, it is what my momma has called me since I was a small child. I always liked to “do it myself” as I would often shout. Even today, as an adult I am fairly independent. Sure I like and value the “opinion” of others and quite often seek advice, however, I remain the same independent spirit as I was as a child. I’m fairly certain this streak of independence is one of the factors which led to my becoming a work at home mom, and a momprenuer, or mom business owner.
Being a mom is a rewarding job, but what makes that even more rewarding for me, is that I am able to still be a working mom as well. The only difference between me and a mom with a 9-5 job is this, I work from home. Now, I have nothing against moms who work outside the home, I just feel lucky to not have to do so. I feel lucky and blessed to be able to do both, work and be a full time mom. Of course this makes everything I do “full time”. I am a full time wife, full time mom, full time business owner. Working from home necessitates being all things at all times. Sure, you can schedule things, take breaks, keep routines, but the fact remains you do all of these things and do so independently.
For me, I thrive on this. I love being independent and therefore I am happy to be able to do it all on my own. Sure I get overwhelmed from time to time, but ultimately I am extremely happy to be able to do so.
Being a mom isn’t easy, being a business owner isn’t easy, but both are extremely rewarding!
