Equal Pay For Equal Work: This is what some morons actually think

It’s only been a little over a week since Obama took office and he’s already made a lot of women very happy; the new president signed the Equal Pay For Equal Work Bill.  Of course, it’s totally awesome and long overdue.

I was reading a post submitted by a mornic man today and his reaction really got under my skin. He said that men should no longer try to work hard. From now on, if they will be getting paid what women earn, they should only work as hard as a woman does.

His statement really made me mad!

Let’s talk about how hard a women does work and then we’ll see if Mr. Moron can even compare! Whether she’s a CEO of a large corporation or the waitress at your local restaurant, women work hard everyday. And the work doesn’t stop when she punches out.

In almost every household that I know of, women come home from work to work even harder around the house. They are making sure that the groceries are bought, dinner is cooked, and school lunches are packed. Women are the ones who remember to make dentist appointments, get the mail, return the DVDs, and take the dog to the vet. Women are also the ones who stay up late to finish the laundry and get up early to finish some other chore.

Would Mr. Moron want to take on all of that, knowing that there wasn’t even a paycheck to go along with it? I don’t think so.

By the way, Mr. Moron couldn’t say “yes.” Because he is single. And I think he’ll probably be staying that way for a loooooong time.

  1. I knew before I reached the end of your post that this man was single. What women would tolerate him? While there is probably little that will open up and change his little pea brain, I do take comfort knowing there is a good chance he will not be adding his ignorance to the gene pool.

  2. I really like this post. I am a father to 3 girls and teach them that they can do ANYTHING and boy can do. My 11 year old likes to add “in high heels and lipstick” with a fist in the air. The guy who made that comment to you is an idiot. Funny thing is, I work with a woman and work for a woman. The woman I work with does the same job as me but makes 50% more than I do. She has a little seniority on me and they blame the economy for why they can’t pay me more. While its a rare occurance, it does happen and I wonder if this plan works both ways.

  3. Nicole – I know! Thank God for small miracles, huh?

    Emily – hecks, yeah!

Tim – I’m glad your daughters have a positive male role model in their lives. As for why the woman you work with is making more than you, well, there could be a lot of reasons for that. The best hope is that a corporation will start people out equally and then give raises based on performance and not gender….

But of course, if you don’t want a corporation deciding what you’re worth, you can start your own damn business which is what this website is all about, now isn’t it?

  4. So glad to hear your comments! I just discussed this with my very conservitive, southern neighbors last night, and his comment was “Well…..the man needs to make more, because he has a family to support” But the best part about that is, he’s telling that to my husband and I, which my husband is a stay at home dad and I work my ass off to provide for the family! My husband is the first to admit that this is the best thing to happen because he knows how hard women work! There are a lot of hard working men out there, I’m not going to knock them, but I’ve also worked with my fair share who don’t pull half the weight I pull in the office, and I know are paid well more than me!! It’s disgusting, and I’m so glad that our new president has made this a priority!! Thanks to Crissy for discussing this!
