  1. Well, I’m new to wanting to get any press at all, and have had two strokes of serendipitous press in the past couple of months. I was laid off from a fabulous job at the end of October. That very same week a gal from Chicago Magazine happened to contact a friend of mine who does PR asking if he knew anybody who had been laid off due to the economy. As I had just been laid off, I was fortunate enough to be featured in an article with four other folks under the same fate. Our article is in the current March 09 edition on newsstand now.

The other situation came about of my own accord when in November I had the idea to send an email to everybody I know saying “Help me Help you this holiday season.” I sent it to about 150 people in the greater Chicago area, basically just saying I’d do anything they needed done over the holidays to help myself earn some extra cash (plan their holiday menus, address Christmas cards, clean their house, babysit their children, etc…). As a result, I did get some holiday work, but I also got a feature in a different publication – TimeOut Chicago. They featured me as the first person in a new section they have called “Hire This…” in their January 8th edition.

It was a great way to get some press. I’m still waiting to get some job offers out of it, but I’ve enjoyed the local publicity so far. :).

  2. My press has been limited at this point…but has been placed in good places that has driven traffic to my website…still working on it and need this to help me!

  3. I haven’t really had much press experience yet, but I did have someone email me through the etsy website asking for my permission to put one of my rings on their blog and also a little blurb from me about my craft. I don’t know if that’s done anything for my sales, but it’s nice to know people appreciate my work.

  4. No press yet … I’m planning to open a gift / homewares store soon and will need all the help I can get!

  5. I haven’t had much press yet, but I did have a nice review posted on a blog. This is something I would really like to know more about!

  6. oh I haven’t had any really great press since my biz is so new, but I did win 4th place in the Saponifier Magazine Swirl Contest~! That was pretty cool~ I’ve won several 1st at conventions and gatherings but never anything national~ so I was really excited~ now I’m a press hooked junkie~ I’m going to put the pic in a frame and put it up over my products and place an ad in the local paper when the store opens, then also send to several local biz’s and a few other tricks up my sleeve~!
To long to go into~ so the book would be great for me to learn more ways to advertise~ my dream ~Being from the South~to go into Southern Living or something majorly similar~with a nice cool review~ funny before it didn’t matter~ now it does~!

  7. No press yet but I have had experience writing press releases for my local craft guild. I would love to receive this as I need all the help I can get!

  8. The only press I get is what I send out there myself, lol. I have been featured on some fellow crafter’s blogs, which is always nice and appreciated.
I pretty much just utilize every free networking site I can to get my product and name out there. I have been doing this for a little over a year now so I am still new to this and would love and appreciate any help and tips you can offer!
