Mom With A Biz Guest Post: Angela Wills

To celebrate Mother’s Day, I asked several women who balance motherhood with owning a business. Here is a guest post by my friend and colleauge, Angela Wills:

When I was 18 years old I went off to university. It was 1994 and I hadn’t even heard of the internet yet.

I was told by my well-intentioned mother (in so many words) that it was my non-negotiable duty to go off to university and get a good job. After all, that’s how she did it and that’s how it was always done. Two years of university, three years of college and one baby later I knew the internet was an amazing tool that I would use to make my living, I just didn’t know how yet.

Fast forward a few years. My son just turned seven and I make my money on the internet. With Mother’s Day almost here it’s a great time to really reflect on why I am so grateful to work from home and be there for my son when he needs me. There are so many reasons why I love working from home.

Here are a few of my favorites:

No Boss – I just never liked being told what to do. It’s a personality trait I guess. I like to figure things out for myself and teach others. Having a boss isn’t always the best way to go about that. Working for myself I have no one to be held accountable to but me.

Flexibility – Yes most people who work from home talk about the flexibility. That’s because it’s so awesome. It’s great to be able to take a day off for school trips, to bring my car in for repairs, pick my son up when he’s sick without asking permission and to take a week or two off whenever I want to.

Do What I Love – Working for someone else means doing what they want and building their vision. When you work for yourself you choose what you do and where you want to go with your business and your life. That is really a beautiful thing.

This article can’t be all about me. My goal is to help YOU find a way to work from home too and how to find a business that suits you to a T. I like to call this your Marketer’s MOJO.

How do you find your mojo? Well it all starts with knowing yourself. I went through a lot of businesses before I really settled on one that was perfect, that made me feel real and that I could see a very big vision for. Once I started working on myself, knowing what I was really good at and what I could excel in then I started to create a business that was just right for me.

Working from home is a rewarding way to live and it really is possible for everyone. You must have determination, drive and passion to succeed but the rewards well worth all the effort it requires.
