As I write this, we are nearing the end of October. It’s almost time for Halloween. The stores are already discounting the costumes and stocking the aisles with Christmas decorations. Make no mistake, the end of the year is drawing near.
This is the perfect time to take stock. Hopefully, you wrote out some goals waaay back in January. Let’s say you did – just humor me, okay? So, pull out that list of goals and start crossing off stuff that you accomplished.
Some of you may be able to cross off your entire list. Yay for you! Put a gold star on the page and call it a day!
Some of you may not have anything crossed off. And the rest of you are going to fit somewhere in between.
Now, before you start crying, take a moment to breathe. Let’s reflect a little bit….
Unexpected things happen. Ten months ago, you might have thought you were going to work really hard and have a million dollars in the bank by November 1. With only a week and a half to go, you may be feeling a bit uneasy about your goal.
Okay, so maybe you didn’t stretch quite that far in your goal setting. The moral of the story is still the same: Things Happen.
Instead of looking at the list of things you didn’t finish, create a new list. Yes, that’s right. Make a new list of all the things you got done!
My list would look a little something like this:
- Moved into my new apartment – the first place I’ve ever lived in all by myself!
- Went to New York City for the first time – to attend BlogHer for the first time – and met a lot of really cool people!
- Partnered with Etsy on a live event where I spoke about blogging.
- Learned how to make really awesome crepes
- Finally did something with CleverChicks.com (the first domain I ever registered)
- Got a new (used) car — and it’s a total UPGRADE from my last car!
- Adopted my cat Franny
Okay – you get the point…. Not all of this stuff is business stuff. A lot of it wasn’t wrote out on my 2010 goal list. But it is stuff that I accomplished. And I’m proud of it!
What’s on your list? Leave a comment on this post with the link to the post on your blog that let’s us know what you are proud of accomplishing this year!
I finally got a business license and really ramped up my Etsy shop, Babushka Designs (https://babushkadesigns.etsy.com). I applied to sell at a craft fair and I signed up with Taproot to do pro bono graphic design! Not too many goals reached but two significant ones. Yay 2010!
