  • Start Networking: Craft Business Resolutions for 2014

take noteJanuary 2, 2014 by CreativeIncome Leave a Comment
Before social media took the world by storm, people relied on networking to help them with marketing. Sure, social media is a form of networking and it’s very convenient that you can do it anywhere and anytime, but don’t let that stop you from getting out and participating in some good old fashioned face-to-face networking!

Think of all the places you routinely visit, and all the people you know at these places – the front office staff at your dentist, the people in your yoga class, the teachers and other parents at your children’s school, and more. How many of these people know you have a business? Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone and told any of them?
These people may become customers or they could refer you to someone they know. That’s what networking is all about. Even if you don’t think someone will be interested in what you sell, that doesn’t mean that they don’t know someone who might be interested.
If you haven’t made some business cards yet, get to it. Not only do you want to give them to people you know as a way to introduce them to your business, but they’re also a good way to meet new people. You never know who you’ll run into when you’re out and about. You may be at the grocery store and see someone wearing a scarf that looks handmade. Go up to them and ask if them if they made it. This could lead into a conversation where you talk about crafts for a few minutes. At the end of the conversation tell the person you enjoyed talking to them, give them your card, and tell them you’d like to meet for coffee one day. This person might become your friend – or maybe they could bring you some potential business. You never know until you try.

  • Livin’ The Dream – In 5 Easy Steps

People often tell me that “I’m livin’ the dream.” And you know what? I am! I get to work on my schedule and do what I love – which makes me very happy.

There isn’t a big secret — you can do this, too. Here are my 5 easy steps to Livin’ The Dream:

    1. Know What You Love. If you pick the wrong type of business, you will be just as miserable in that business as you are in a job you hate. Owning a business should be FUN, and it should energize you. You’re not going to work on it if you don’t like it, and you’re not going to make any money if you’re not working on your business.

    2. Get Over Your Fear Of Sales! A lot of people tell me that they don’t like sales. No one is going to pay you to breathe. You have to sell a product or service within your business, but you can do it in a way that feels natural and not like a 70s used car salesman.

    3. Make A Plan. You don’t have to write out a 700 page business plan, but you do have to know what you’re selling, how much you’re selling it for, and who you’re marketing to.

    4. Get To Work. Now, you have to dig in your heels and make it happen. This can be tricky! It’s hard to be the boss when you’re used to being the employee. You have to get rid of the distractions, quit procrastinating, and do the work.

    5. Believe In Yourself. A lot of people might tell you that your idea is stupid. (Trust me, I had a lot of people telling me that when I first started working on my site!) But you just have to believe in yourself and keep going! Get it out there. Test it out and see what happens!

  • Spring Promo Ideas

Do you need some inspiration for Spring-themed sales and promotions? Here are some ideas for you:

Spring Fever Sale – People are sick of winter and ready for Spring! Do you have any items that can help people get ready for Spring? Whether it’s new clothes & accessories or something that can help people Spring clean and get organized? Remember – it doesn’t have to be a physical item. You can offer services, too!

“Find The Leprechaun” Promo – Hide a leprechaun in one of your blog posts (in honor of St. Patrick’s Day). Email your newsletter list and let them know it’s there. Offer a prize to the first person who responds with the answer of where it is!

Customer Appreciation Sale – It’s always a good time to hold a Customer Appreciation Sale! You can choose to offer the discount on one product in particular or all of your products. You could even choose a different product to feature for each day during one week.

“Blog Hop” Promo – As Easter gets closer, ol’ Peter Cotton Tail will be hopping down the bunny trail, so why not take this opportunity to start hopping from blog to blog? Ask some friends if you can guest post on their blogs, and if they want, they can guest post on your blog. You’ll be introduced to their readers, they’ll be introduced to your readers. For example, let’s say you have a blogging friend named Sally. Write a guest post for her, and have her publish it on Monday; if she chooses to guest post for you, publish her’s on Monday, as well. Even if she doesn’t, write a quick blog post on Monday as a teaser for your guest post, and link to her blog. This is a little “thank you” to her for publishing the post, as you’re still introducing her blog to your readers.

Easter Sale – Do you have any Easter related items? If so, this is the time of year to start promoting them!

Summer Preview – Do you have any Summer specific items? If so, hold a preview in late Spring. You can just use this as a teaser promo OR you can allow the sale / or advance order of these items during a “Summer Preview Weekend.”

  • How To Create Recurring Revenue In Your Business

I have something exciting to talk about today: Recurring Revenue!

Many business owners start from “zero” each month. They have to get new clients, sell new products and services, etc, in order to make money each month.

It’s stressful to start each month at zero and know you have to work, work, work to earn $2,000 or $5,000 or however much you need to make ends meet.

A smarter – and less stressful strategy – is to create Recurring Revenue.

Luckily, this business model is becoming VERY popular right now, and you can easily use this in your own business!

For example – have you ever heard of Birchbox, the monthly make-up delivery? Or Naturebox, the monthly box of healthy snacks? Or Barkbox, the monthly delivery of dog snacks and products?

The list goes on and on! People are signing up for these monthly subscriptions left and right! It’s easy, convenient, and it creates Recurring Revenue for all of these companies.

Now, let’s talk about how YOU can do this in your own business!

Do you sell physical products? You can create your own monthly box of goods!

OR you can collaborate with others and include their products in your monthly box subscription.

Are you a graphic designer, virtual assistant, or other service business owner? Create recurring revenue by selling your services on a monthly retainer.

You can also create a monthly membership program for ebooks, audios, videos, or other information products!
